Project Overview

MTM Enterprises was contracted to complete a fast-response log jam removal beneath the Highway 29 Bridge in Danville, Virginia. The site presented an active waterway obstruction, with a high volume of logs restricting flow and placing pressure on the bridge structure.

This project required rapid execution while maintaining traffic accessibility and minimizing ground disturbance at the site.

Technical Implementation

To complete the job efficiently and safely, MTM deployed:

  • Two excavators, each equipped with 360° rotating grapples, for precise and controlled log extraction

  • An AX19 chipper for immediate on-site wood processing

  • A grapple truck to transport material and support site clearing

  • Swamp mats for ground protection and site preservation

  • TMA trailers to close down only the left lane of the bridge, allowing the right lane to remain open and traffic to continue flowing safely

Project results

The Highway 29 Bridge log jam was fully cleared in just three days. By the end of Day 2, all logs had been removed from the jam, allowing the final day to focus on site cleanup, chipping debris with the AX19 chipper, and restoring the area. Traffic flow across the bridge remained active throughout the project, with only the left lane closed using TMA trailers to ensure worker safety. MTM completed the job without ground damage, thanks to the use of swamp mats, and left the site clean and fully operational. This project highlights MTM’s ability to deliver fast, low-impact log jam removal with minimal disruption to public infrastructure.
