Barren River Lake Paving

Barren River Lake Paving

Client

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers

Location

Port Oliver Recreation Area, Barren River Lake, KY

Project Overview

MTM Enterprises was tasked with paving a 45,000+ square-foot parking lot at Port Oliver, located on Army Corps land adjacent to the Barren River Lake reservoir. The area includes a public boat ramp, park, hiking and biking trails, and a picturesque amphitheater frequently used for weddings. The paving replaced the previous gravel lot to improve access and durability

Technical Implementation

To execute the paving efficiently within a tight seasonal window, MTM coordinated:

  • Subcontractors worked on site shaping, grading, and installation of multiple truckloads of dense-grade aggregate over two days.

  • Soil compaction to establish a stable foundation

  • Asphalt base coat poured and compacted in one day, followed by the surface coat the next day

  • Proof roll inspection passed by the Corps

  • Subcontractors completed final line markings over two days

  • Rain delays limited work to six active days across two weeks, with temperatures held above 40℉ minimum for hot asphalt

Project Results

The Port Oliver parking lot was fully paved and striped in two weeks, transforming gravel into a smooth, resilient surface ready for heavy recreational use. Despite multiple rainouts, the project stayed on track, passing all Corps inspections and enhancing safety for boaters, hikers, and event attendees. MTM delivered a low-disruption upgrade that preserves the site’s natural appeal while supporting year-round public access.
